<초록>

이 논문에서 저자들은 지역의 주거 안정과 청소년 범죄와의 관련성을 연구 하였다. Shaw와 McKay가 주장한 사회해체이론(Social Disorganization Theory) 을 바탕으로 미국 로스앤젤레스 주변의 지역이 연구의 대상으로 분석되었다. 사용된 데이터는 “Los Angeles Business Improvement Districts”로서 미국 로스앤젤레스 시 안에 있는 837개의 지역들의 정보를 포함하고 있다. 연구결 과에 따르면, 지역의 주거 안정은 청소년 범죄율에 큰 영향을 주지 않는 것으 로 나타났다. 하지만 사회해체이론의 다른 두 가지 요소를 상징하는 변수들 즉, 가난과 흑인 주민의 비율은 청소년 범죄율에 영향을 주었다. 향후 연구에 는 데이터에 부족했던 정보를 보완하고 청소년 범죄가 일어나는 복잡한 상황 들을 더욱더 고려하여 복합적인 변수들을 분석에 포함시켜 진행되어야 할 것 이다. 반면, 이용이 없는 옥상 및 지하공간에 대해서는 관리가 양호한 것으로 나타났다.

In this article, the authors explore the relationship between residential stability of a neighborhood and juvenile crime. With the theoretical basis of Shaw and McKay’s social disorganization theory, the neighborhoods in the Los Angeles areas are examined with the Business Improvement Districts data. The results indicate that the sole impact of residential stability of a neighborhood on its delinquency rate is inconsequential while variables including poverty and percentage of black residents are shown to have significant effects. The authors concludes with a suggestion for future studies to supplement the data with missing information and consider more complex contexts in which juvenile crimes are committed.
